The Story of Sunshine and
The Energy Works! Protective Horse Bead
By Sunshine’s Human Mom:
Gayle Davis Kaye

On Easter morning of 2007 we received a call from one of the most ethical horse rescues, Saving Horses Inc. A pregnant palomino mare’s adoption fell through and she was earmarked for slaughter the next day. My husband Peter and I drove to San Bernardino, picked her up, and brought her home. When unloading she did seem a bit wobbly, but we wrote it off to the long 2 hour
trailer ride home.

We let her settle in for a few days. Slow and gentle walking revealed an appalling weakness in her hind legs. Her whole back end was very weak. My immediate concern was her not having enough muscle tone to deliver safely. She was “very pregnant” and we had no idea of when she would deliver.

The veterinarian agreed, telling us to walk her up and down the driveway at least once a day to build muscle tone. Her feet were in pitiful condition, had not been cared for in a very long time. Her hooves had severely grown, embedding the 4 different shoes she was shod with. The farrier had to come twice as she could not stand on three legs long enough for him to do the work necessary. (Editor’s note: I know these people well and their farrier, Brian Fitzpatrick, is a genius.)

This wonderful mama, whom we named Sunshine, is the most polite, well-mannered horse that we have known. Her constant pain and
inability to walk straight was heartbreaking.  At the feedlot she was being fed alfalfa to make her gain weight. The baby was so large and active it was scary. We later learned she had been in a trailer accident that ended her career as a reining horse, and had been put in a stall to breed.  This was her third baby in as many years.  It was obvious the back injury healed with little to no rehabilitation.

On May 9th a perlino colt was born, healthy and beautiful. Sunshine is a wonderful mother, and would not leave her baby for the exercise she needed. When the baby was about 2 months we began to let them out into the pasture area to help her lose weight and exercise her back end. We live on a hill, so the walking up and down the hill was helping her. Her recovery was slow. We started her on mineral supplements and calcium to help restore her losses from so many pregnancies.

The wobble in the back end strengthened a
bit, but she began short stepping in the back, creating an obvious limp to her diagonal front quarter. Her head constantly bobbed with pain when she walked. If she went a short distance, she became sweaty.  She was becoming sore to the touch and massage had become painful. Because of her time with her baby, recovery was slow. Occasionally she would run in the pasture with the baby, mostly to take care of him. One of the other mares would go to him when she had difficulty moving, and would wait with the baby till she got there or till she felt things were okay. It was a lovely arrangement, but movement was slow, painful and she let out these big  sighs after short distances.  Signs of any further improvement began to dwindle, and we started to wonder what would be her destiny.  We tried everything the vet prescribed and more. It was so difficult to watch her in so much pain, and still be a wonderful mom.

The following October
we were asked to use Sunshine as a "model" for John and Yolanda Lowery’s Energy Works Horse Bead. We braided the Horse Bead into her mane. The sun was setting faster than we had expected, so we had to take a break to reset the camera. At this point the Energy Bead was on her for about 30 minutes.  During the break I put her into the round pen and released her from the halter.  She looked at me, turned and started to run in a circle. As she ran she began to buck and whinny and just seemed to be having fun.

I had never seen her move in such a way !

It was as if she had been in a plaster cast and was breaking free and having a great time! I stood in awe as I watched her romp and play in the round pen.

It was as if I was looking at a completely different horse!

Please note: She lives in a one-acre pasture.  This behavior could have happened there, but never did. Tears swelled my eyes, as it was the first glimmer of hope I had seen that she could have a pain free future.

We left the bead on Sunshine, and as each day went by we saw more progress. She was actually moving more and roaming the pasture better. Her stance went from keeping her hind legs squeezed under her belly to being more perpendicular with the ground and much more relaxed. One day I saw her running and playing with the baby, turning quickly and dancing side to side as if she were teaching baby Geronimo Moon how to herd cows. Her weight started to drop off and we could see relief in her eyes. The cold winds, rain and snow took their toll on her during December-thru February. We do not have a covered barn, but she was blanketed
and had a shelter with tarps on the sides to block the wind.

Today she stood in the sun in the upper pasture grazing on the fresh new spring grass. She looked so content. Her legs were stretched behind her and she was actually had the strength to stand with her front uphill, supported by her hind end - as she had never done before!

Along with the Horse Bead we began to feed her Equi-Pride, a probiotics vitamin and minerals mix, calcium manganese supplement, and changed her feed to “3-way” hay. She was on supplements prior to the energy bead, and the results were minimal.  I feel the Horse Bead has helped her process these supplements to the fullest.  Her coat color has changed for the 4th time this year. Her winter coat was thick, rich and shiny.  Her eyes are brighter and more alert. She has a sense of humor that is really starting to show.
All in all, her life seems to have a much more positive attitude to it. Her barefoot hooves are comfortable and strong.  The Horse Bead gave her mind and body the start it needed to provide for the healing to start, and to just keep on working.

I was so impressed I started to wear an Horse Bead to help me with my daily arthritic symptoms. I can now make it thru the day without sugar and coffee to keep me going. I have more energy when I get home from work. I don’t crave the sweets anymore, and if I do have some, they actually put me over the edge. I now get a small project a day done, not to mention feeling good enough to cook a healthy meal in the evenings.  Having to give10 rescue horses personal attention after work each day makes for a long day.  At the age of 55 and with my Horse Bead I am doing
great.

I truly endorse the Energy Works Horse Bead. I have observed what it did for Sunshine and felt for myself the safe and amazing results it gives.

Sincerely,

Gayle
